Macrame Beach Jars

What You'll Need:

Let's Do This!

STEP 1:

A) To make the colored tint for the Mason jar, you will need water, white glue, and sky blue food coloring.
B) Add about 25 drops of sky blue food coloring to 1 tablespoon of water.
C) Pour 1 tablespoon of white glue into a Mason jar.
D) Pour the colored water into the Mason jar.

STEP 2:

A) Put the lid on the Mason jar and gently swirl the solution around to coat the inside. Let sit for 10 minutes.
B) Remove the lid and pour out the excess solution.

STEP 3:

A) Place the jar upside down on a piece of parchment paper and put in a 250-degree oven for 15 minutes.
B) Use an oven mitt to carefully turn the jar over (it will be hot!) and place it back in the 250-degree oven for another 15 minutes.

STEP 4:

Cut nine 36" pieces of craft cord.

STEP 5:

A) Fold one 36" piece of craft cord in half to make the "anchor" cord.

B) Fold another 36" piece of craft cord in half and loop it around the anchor cord to make a knot, as shown. Pull to tighten. Note: Be sure to leave about a 1" loop on the end of the anchor cord. Continue adding the remaining cords in the same manner.

C) Once all eight pieces of craft cord are attached, pull the loose ends of the anchor cord through the loop of the anchor cord.

D) Pull the anchor cord strings tight and slide the knots to make a tight circle.

STEP 6:

A) Place the jar upside down. Set the circle on the bottom of the jar.

B) Take one string each from a pair of neighboring knots. Tie them together to make a knot like you would if you were tying a balloon.

C) Continue the process of tying neighboring strings to create the first row of knots around the jar. The row should be spaced about one inch below the circle.

D) Using the same technique, continue making rows of knots until you near the neck of the Mason jar.

STEP 7:

A) Apply double-sided tape around the rim of the Mason jar. Press the loose ends of the strings into the tape.

B) Hot glue a piece of craft cord to the bottom of the rim. Wind the string around the rim until the entire rim is covered.

C) Snip the craft cord and hot glue the end to the rim of the jar.

D) Snip off any excess strings that stick up over the rim.

TADA!
