Steps to Follow:
- Start by covering the trifold with sky blue poster board.
- Using black and white poster letters, spell out the title in white letters and also in black letters. Layer the white on top of the black letters creating a drop shadow effect and adhere letters together. Place and spell out title on the center panel of the trifold. To add more presence to the word “On” in the title, use larger colored classic letters, selecting yellow to spell out “On”. Make a drop shadow for this word as well.
- Take quilt batting of cotton balls and fluff to make it look like a blowing cloud. Adhere to trifold underneath the title using glue dots or small dots of hot glue. When using hot glue, make sure to use a popsicle stick to press the cotton down to the trifold as it dries. Remove the stick fairly quickly so that it doesn’t adhere to the cotton.
- Using quick stick foam letters spell out the subtitle along the blowing cloud.
- Take green poster board and cut out hill-like shapes. Cut one to the width of the left panel and a wider one to the width of the center panel. Adhere the hill shapes to the bottoms of the left and center panels.
- Cut more hill-like shapes out of brown craft paper or construction paper and adhere on top of the green hills.
- Finish up the hill section by cutting out one more set of green hills, shorter in height than the original hills. Adhere below the brown hills. The layering creates interest to the hill shapes rather than just having one layer of green hill.
- Download and print the telephone pole and wire strips shapes. Adhere poles to black foam board and cut out. Adhere wire strips to black poster board and cut out.
- Adhere one long pole to the left of the center panel as shown and two smaller poles to the trifold as shown.
- Lay and adhere wire strip diagonally across the poles angling downwards toward the right panel.
- Layer or “sandwich” the strip with a second foam pole. Layer the far left pole and the middle pole. The pole to the right remains one layer of foam.
- Lay and adhere wire strip diagonally underneath the first strip angling downwards toward the right panel.
- Layer or “sandwich” the strip with a third foam pole. Layer the far left pole and the middle pole.
- Lay and adhere the final wire strip diagonally across the poles angling downwards toward the right panel. The layering of poles lifts the wire strips creating dimension and depth to this area.
- Download and print the turbine parts. Adhere the propellers to foam board and cut out. Cut out the circle and turbine pole.
- Adhere the pole directly to the trifold on the left panel on top of the hill.
- Adhere propellers and circle to the poster motion disc. Attach to poster motion battery pack. Adhere pack to the top of the turbine pole on the trifold.
- Add imagery and researched information to the left and center panels of the trifold. Accent these with a mix of borders and photo corners cut out of yellow neon poster board.
- You will notice that we haven’t touched the right panel up to this point. We will now address this panel with a dimensionally featured city that lights up!
- Download and print city buildings and adhere each section to black foam board.
- Cut out along the building shapes.
- Using the wooden hold punch tool supplied with the poster lights, punch out random holes in the city building windows.
- Flip over and adhere the battery pack to the left end of the city. Make sure to have the switch face outwards to access when assembled. Place batteries in pack and push lights through the holes.
- Cut and stack 3 foam squares high. Make three of these and adhere to shown areas on the back of the city.
- Use a small dot of hot glue and apply to the 3 foam square elevations.
- Carefully flip right side up and adhere to the top of the right panel.
- Repeat these steps for the other sections of the city.
- Using the city as a backdrop, apply additional information and imagery to this side.
- Turn on the wind turbine and lights and watch wind generate energy!
